Who Am I?

My Name is
Patty Middleton
.
About Me
Hi there, I’m Patty…. I completed my MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy in 2020 at the Sherwood Institute of Psychotherapy in Nottingham. Prior to this I have worked in community and residential environments. I also work part time in the NHS working in a short term model of counselling which gives me experience and skills in the best approach for your needs. My work focusses on the impact of early experiences and their influence on how we learn to disconnect from our emotions which create barriers in relationships with ourselves and those around us. This stops us being the best versions of ourselves, and see us replaying unhelpful patterns time and time again. As a humanistic and integrative psychotherapist, I draw on different theories that I feel would be a good fit for the work that we do. Some examples of these are cognitive behavioural therapy, attachment theory, compassion focused therapy and transactional analysis. I use theories that may help you to understand why you feel 'stuck' or approaches that will aid you in understanding why we feel we react in emotionally heightened ways and how we develop awareness of potential triggers. You may want to feel 'happier' or 'back to normal'. We can work out what this means for you so you know when you have reached your goal. Having completed my own therapy for my qualification I fully appreciate how hard it is to reach out and ask for help. If you are a couple or a relationship experiencing emotional challenges or barriers, I may be able to help. Often our work will focus on why you seem to be getting stuck in conflict, as opposed to what you feel you often argue about. I completed the Diploma in Couples Therapy with the Sherwood Institute of Psychotherapy in 2022. I completed the Diploma In Supervision through the Sherwood Psychotherapy Institute (UKCP Accredited) in 2024 and am able to offer academic supervision or clinical supervision to qualified therapists, trainee therapists or those working professionally using therapeutic competencies.
